Mumbai: The country’s leading commodity derivatives exchange MCX recorded a total turnover of Rs.12,62,954.85 crore in various commodity futures, options and index futures during the week from January 31 to February 6, in which the share of commodity futures trading Rs. 1,50,100.89 crore and options share was Rs. 11,12,824.40 crore. A movement of 700 points was seen in the February futures of Bulldex, the precious metals index.
In precious metals futures, GOLD and SILVER saw a total turnover of Rs.1,03,669.13 crore in 10,47,493 trades on MCX. In GOLD contracts, MCX GOLD April futures opened at Rs.82,199 per 10 gram and touched an intra-day high of Rs.84,894 and a low of Rs.81,639 during the week and closed at Rs.84,444, up by Rs.2,400. Against this, GOLD-Guinea February contract per 8 gram jumped Rs.2,032 to Rs.67,570 and GOLD-Petal February contract per 1 gram rose Rs.264 to Rs.8,339. GOLD-Mini March futures opened at Rs.81,488 per 10 gram and closed at Rs.83,856, up by Rs.2,482.
In SILVER futures, SILVER March futures opened at Rs.93,800 per 1 kg, touched an intra-day high of Rs.96,485 and a low of Rs.91,725 during the week and closed at Rs.95,588, up Rs.2142. SILVER-Mini February contract jumped Rs.2068 to Rs.95,372 and SILVER-Micro February contract jumped Rs.2,067 to close at Rs.95,362.
In metals futures, MCX witnessed a turnover of Rs.11,371.45 crore in 89,126 trades. ALUMINIUM February futures rose Rs.3.85 to Rs.255.95 per 1 kg and ZINC February futures rose Rs.2.10 to Rs.269. COPPER February contract rose by Rs.22.15 to Rs.854.65 and LEAD February contract rose by Rs.1 to Rs.181.
In Energy segment futures, a total of Rs.35,049.52 crore was traded in 823,548 trades on MCX. CRUDE OIL February futures opened at Rs.6,365, touched an intra-day high of Rs.6,520 and a low of Rs.6,176 during the week and closed at Rs.6,210 per barrel, down by Rs.109, while NATURAL GAS February futures rose by Rs.26.70 to close at Rs.295.80 per 1 MMBTU.
In Agricultural Commodities, Rs.10.79 crore was traded in 219 trades on MCX. COTTON CANDY February futures opened at Rs.53,760 per 1 candy, touched an intra-day high of Rs.53,850 and a low of Rs.52,840 during the week and closed the week at Rs.53,700, up Rs.90. MENTHA OIL futures February contract declined Rs.8.70 to Rs.915.80 per 1 kg.
In terms of trading, among precious metals on MCX, GOLD futures traded 68,509.423 kg worth Rs.57,058.30 crore in 2,66,691 trades and SILVER futures traded 4,911.296 tonnes worth Rs.46,610.83 crore in 7,80,802 trades. In the energy segment, CRUDE OIL futures traded 1,41,52,100 barrels worth Rs.8,937.65 crore in 97,157 trades, and NATURAL GAS futures traded 75,00,80,000 MMBTU worth Rs.21,261 crore in 3,16,889 trades. In agricultural commodities, COTTON CANDY futures traded 2784 candies worth Rs.3.73 crore in 50 trades, and MENTHA OIL contracts traded 76.68 tonnes worth Rs.7.06 crore in 169 trades. Open Interest ended the week at 22,205.133 kg in GOLD Futures and 1,218.234 tonnes in SILVER Futures, 9,52,700 barrels in CRUDE OIL and 2,37,55,000 MMBTU in NATURAL GAS and 12,528 candies in COTTON CANDY, 133.92 tonnes in MENTHA OIL on MCX.
In Index Futures, 296 lots worth Rs.29.56 crore were traded in 291 trades in Bulldex Futures during the week on MCX. Open Interest in Bulldex Futures stood at 175 lots. Bulldex February futures opened at 19,752 and moved up by 700 points to close at 20,164 by gaining 496 points. Talking about options, Options on Futures recorded a notional turnover of Rs.11,12,824.40 crore in 1,00,11,200 trades on MCX. Call and put options of GOLD were traded for Rs.1,47,394.55 crore, call and put options of SILVER and SILVER-Mini were traded for Rs.35,629.08 crore. In the energy segment, call and put options of CRUDE OIL were traded for Rs.8,19,177.72 crore and call and put options of NATURAL GAS were traded for Rs.97,653.04 crore.
