Asaniye, Sawantwadi: Considering the problem of rainwater flowing away and the possibility of water scarcity during summer, water conservation work has been started in Asaniye village. With the initiative of Kokan Kala Va Shikshan Vikas Sanstha (Kokan NGO), the construction of five Vanrai and earthen check dams has been undertaken with community participation. The initiative is receiving good support from the Gram Panchayat, women’s self-help groups, and local youth.
The main objective of this initiative is to conserve rainwater, improve groundwater levels, and protect the village’s water resources. For this purpose, areas where rainwater flows away in large quantities were inspected, and suitable locations for constructing the check dams were selected. Local youth participated in the work through voluntary labour, while the Gram Panchayat and women’s self-help groups also extended their support.
The check dams are expected to retain rainwater longer, maintain soil moisture, and improve groundwater levels. This will support water availability in nearby wells and other water sources and reduce the impact of summer water scarcity.
Kokan Kala Va Shikshan Vikas Sanstha (Kokan NGO India) continues to undertake various developmental activities as part of its social commitment. The collective efforts of the Gram Panchayat, women’s self-help groups, local youth, and villagers are making this initiative an example of community participation in water conservation.
On this occasion, Kokan NGO India President Dayanand Kubal, Jitu Sawant, Chandan Naik, and several local youths were present.
