Sawantwadi: To reduce the environmental impact of plastic bags and equip women with employment-oriented skills, a cloth bag-making training programme was organised for women in the Gram Panchayat area of Tulsuli-Karyad Narur. Gram Panchayat Tulsuli-Karyad Narur, or Kokan Kala Va Shikshan Vikas Sanstha (Kokan NGO India), organised the programme.
The increasing use of plastic bags has become a significant environmental concern. Promoting reusable cloth bags while equipping women with practical skills can help address this issue and create opportunities for women to become economically self-reliant.
Through this training, women learned the skills required to make cloth bags. These skills can enable them to explore self-employment opportunities, start small-scale businesses, or earn income by producing and selling cloth bags. Such initiatives can help women contribute to their family income while encouraging sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
Smt. attended the programme. Nutan Air, Sarpanch; Mr. Nagesh Air, Zilla Parishad Member; Smt. Kavita Angchekar, Gram Panchayat Member; Smt. Shraddha Adelkar, Gram Panchayat Officer; Mr. Sameer Shirke, Coordinator at Kokan NGO India; and Smt. Jeevdani Manjrekar, Trainer. A total of 16 women from the village participated in the training.
Kokan NGO India will continue to organise such initiatives to promote employment opportunities, strengthen women’s economic independence, and encourage environmental conservation.
